Tom Ford's Autumn Winter '15 private press preview opened distinctly different from previous seasons. Out went the strict "no photos or videos" policy, and in came a professional photo studio set- with encouragement from the man himself to get involved and take selfies with the models as they posed against a white canvas and industrial bright lights.
Suits are back this season following a hiatus last season (to make way for the new denim range). "Evening wear is a huge business for us and every season we try our best to revamp and restyle in a way which is still real and fresh," Ford explained.
It's fair to say he has achieved that goal. The suits on showcase for Autumn Winter '15 are less fitted around the waist than we have previously seen and more of a sack shape, but very wearable and flattering at the same time. The styling is very Mod and offers a more casual way of wearing evening attire – sneakers (which were a top seller last season), no socks, dark roll necks, silk scarfs and blazers. Very simple and modern.
Shearling jackets were a clear trend at London Collections: Men, seen at Burberry, Coach and Margaret Howell to name just a few, but there was a real feeling of "I need that in my life" amongst the audience when the models came out sporting Tom's shearling offering. It was teamed with brown suede lace ups and slim cut jeans, which remain the only item in the entire range made in America.
"There are three cuts on offer, this is not to create different silhouettes but to cater for three different body shapes" said Ford, an approach to finding the perfect pair for jeans which should surely will be adopted by other brands.
With rumors of an imminent comeback at Gucci circulating, Tom Ford has proven once again why he is the best at what he does, and why he remains the hottest ticket in town.
